| The Aliens are the remains of the Beta Band so you expect an eclectic and strange sound but you don’t expect Fleetwood Mac, which is what hits you about the first track (and first single) on this album. This ends with a reminder of who they are so I imagine it will be used as the opening track when they play live as well. The second track ‘I am the Robot Man’ is another great mix of styles, you get a bit of a House piano which is then consumed by a Beatlesesq track. As the album progresses the 60’s influence increases but it’s not just a sad throw back they have added a Beta Band twists to it, even though they keep reminding us they are the Aliens.
The track 'Rox' is an unbelievable mix of influences I spotted at loads ranging from Techno, through Arabic to Madchester via of course The Beta Band and their own ‘I am the Robot Man’. Instead of listing all the influences just go to wikipedia and search for popular musical styles, this song has them all. It may sound like scary cacophony but it works so well if released as extended remix single it could easily become an indie club floor filler.
The second half of the album is a bit more mellow and laid back then the first and more Kinks than Beatles. If you like great melodies, faultless production and musicianship then this is for you. It will take you time to get to appreciate its multiple layers and styles but stick with it, it will grow and grow on you.
